Orang-utans
The baby orang-utan is one of several protected by the GEA , however many of the remaining population in Malaysia are seen as pets. The pet trade is responsible for killing mothers in order to get their young. It is estimated that in recent years 10,000 of the great apes have been killed in order to supply 2,000 babies as pets to Taiwan.
Orang-utans eat both plants and small mammals , however their favourite food is fruit. They spend their entire lives high in the trees of the Malaysian forest. They are solitary animals ,spending nearly their entire adult life alone. Each male has a large territory which overlaps several female territories.
Their territories are very large and operations by logging companies and large commercial plantations threaten to reduce the size of their forest habitat.

Tigers
Of the eight species of tiger , there are only 5 still in existence today .Over the last century numbers have fallen from around 100,000 to only 5,000. They are constantly under threat from poachers , and their natural habitats are shrinking owing to human interference. The GEA has been working for years to raise funds to try and to reduce such threats and sustain tiger numbers in the wild.

The black rhino can be found across Africa and has recently been successfully re-introduced back into Botswana and Zambia.
Rhinos have been constantly under threat from poachers, killing them for their horn. Fortunately, Chinese medicine is still apparent,
Rhino numbers are now stabilising and in some countries they are even starting to increase again. African government needs a constant help however to keep funding conservation initiatives, train rhino specialists and manage the existing population

Recycling and saving energy helps conserve our planet. Think about it…….
Recycling tins, plastic and paper. Your local council may have a scheme to help you.
Saving energy. Turn off lights and other electrical appliances when not in use.
Shopping. Look out for products made from sustainable resources and avoid those products that come in unnecessary amounts of packaging.
